Our youths enjoyed themselves thoroughly, especially for Meilin who was appointed as one of the youth ambassadors to welcome the GOH at the jetty. She was also tasked to assist in the official launch of the pictograms. A once in a lifetime experience, it was no wonder that she was beaming with joy.
Our youth, Meilin, shaking hands with the Guest-of-Honour, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, at the official launch of the Youth Olympic Games Culture and Education pictograms.
“I’m very honored to represent Students Care Service to participate in the culture and educational program; talking to the minister, Dr Vivian; shaking hands with him; and meeting up with important people. It’s also very honorable to open the Chest box; to take a photo with the minister; and I met 2 youths from NIGERIA.” – Meilin, 18 years old
Wei Jie, 18 years old, made new friends through the event, and got to know other volunteers. He said, “ I have learnt to communicate with other people, learnt how to think out of the box - to create something out of nothing. I learnt that teamwork works best when you want to build something.”
“The feeling was good interacting with international people as well as other school peers throughout the activities. It was tiring yet fun.” Ting Xian, 18 years old.
All in all, it was a great and adventurous day for the youths, volunteers and staff from Yishun Centre. Thank you SYOGOC Culture and Education for this wonderful opportunity and Congratulations on the Launch of the CEP pictograms!
